Safeguarding & Child Protection

Update 27/03/20
During this period of partial closure this school site continues to be open for provision for vulnerable pupils and children of key workers. Irrespective of any partial closure or collaboration with another school, the safeguarding of all our children remains our top priority. At this time, our school will continue as normal in supporting our vulnerable children and if anyone has any questions regarding this they are asked to make contact via Please contact the school if you have any queries

Southway Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy which can be viewed below.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Pete Newbold (Headteacher). Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are Mrs Helen Denison (Deputy Headteacher & SENdCo) and Miss Laura Whitman. The Governor with responsibility for safeguarding in our school is Mr Kieron Woodland, Chair of Governors.

The West Sussex Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) can be contacted on 01403 229900 or out of hours on 0330 222 6664, email
